Business Scope
Define the services your company performs on a shipment — rename or retire the standard four, add your own, and let the pickers order themselves by what you actually use.
Business Scope (/settings/business-scope) is the list of services your company performs on a
shipment — customs entry, warehousing, last-mile delivery, and whatever else your business does.
Operators tick them on a shipment's Routing section, and the workflow uses them to decide which
sections apply.
Four values ship as standard. Everything on this screen exists because those four are not everyone's business: a forwarder that also runs bonded transport or cross-docking can add it, and one that never does customs entry can switch it off so it stops appearing in the pickers.
The list
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Name | What operators see. This is what you rename. |
| Code | What is stored on every shipment. Fixed at creation — see below. |
| Used | How many of your shipments carried this value in the last twelve months. |
| Active | Off removes it from the pickers. It does not touch existing shipments. |
The pickers are ordered by the Used count, not by the order on this screen. A company that mostly does customs entry sees Customs Entry first, with nothing to configure. The count is also the answer to "can I retire this?", which is why it sits next to the switch that retires it.
Standard values versus your own
The four standard values are shared and cannot be edited directly. When you rename one or switch it off, your company gets its own copy with your wording — the original stays untouched for everyone else, and Restore default brings it back. A row that came from the shared list is marked Standard; once you have changed it, it is also marked Customised.
A value you created yourself is yours throughout, and Delete removes it.
The code cannot change
Adding a value asks for a Name and a Code. The name is free text you can change whenever you like. The code is what gets written onto every shipment that carries the value, so it is fixed once created — changing it would leave every existing shipment pointing at something that no longer exists.
Codes are uppercase letters, digits and underscores (BONDED_TRANSPORT). Lower case is accepted and
uppercased for you, so bonded_transport cannot become a second value beside BONDED_TRANSPORT.
Switching a value off does not rewrite history
Deactivating a value removes it from the pickers on new shipments. Shipments that already carry it keep it, it still shows on their Routing section, and they can still be edited and saved. The catalog describes what is on offer today; it does not rewrite what your company did last year.
The same is true of Delete for a value you created. Nothing cascades — the shipments keep the value, it simply stops being offered.
Who can change this
Renaming, adding, deactivating and deleting need the same permission as other company settings
(org.settings.write; owners and admins have it). Every operator sees the resulting list in the
shipment forms.
