Divisions

Maintain the divisions your shipments, quotes and users belong to — add, rename, pick the default, and retire the ones nothing uses anymore.

Divisions (/settings/divisions) is the catalog of operating units your company is split into — branches, business lines, offices. Shipments, quotes and users each carry one, and the picker on those records reads this list.

The picker existed before this screen did; the catalog behind it could not be filled anywhere. This page is where it is authored.

The list

ColumnWhat it means
NameWhat operators see in the pickers.
CodeA short identifier, stored upper-case and unique within your company. Optional.
DefaultThe division new records start with. Exactly one row holds it.
RecordsHow many shipments, quotes and users currently carry this division.

A row that any record still points at is marked In use.

Adding and editing

Add division asks for a Name (required) and a Code (optional). Lower-case codes are uppercased for you, so mia and MIA cannot become two divisions.

Edit changes the name or the code; every record already assigned to the division follows the change, because they store the division, not its text.

The default division

One division is the default — it is what a new shipment, quote or user gets when nobody picks another. Make this the default division on a row promotes it and demotes the previous holder in the same step, so there is never a moment with two defaults or none.

Deleting

Delete is only available for a division no record carries. A division marked In use cannot be deleted; reassign those records first and the button becomes available. Deletion is permanent — there is no deactivate switch on this catalog, unlike Projects, because a division that still classifies records must keep existing for them.

  • Projects — the other classification catalog shipments are filed under.
  • Business Scope — the services a shipment carries, which is a different axis from the division that owns it.
